Before the first upload
Can I bring a library I already have?
Yes. Videos import by URL — point OAcast at where a file lives now and it pulls, transcodes and publishes it. Uploading from your own machine resumes after a dropped connection instead of starting over, which matters when one episode is 12 GB.
Which encoder do I need?
Any encoder that speaks RTMP. OBS, vMix, a hardware unit in a gallery — you get a server URL and a stream key, same as everywhere else. Nothing proprietary to install, and you can run a private preview to check your setup before anything is public.
What happens if my stream drops mid-broadcast?
The broadcast does not end. The page shows a reconnecting state, viewers keep the player open, chat stays live, and the stream picks up when your encoder is back. Nobody gets bounced to a dead page.
Does the chat disappear when the stream ends?
No — it freezes read-only and stays with the recording. Moderation runs live: remove a message, ban someone from one stream, or block an account across every stream, all mid-broadcast. Chat is also a per-video switch you can flip while you are on air.
Can I publish things that are not video?
Articles are first-class, not an afterthought. Same editor, same tier gating, same server-rendered pages. A written investigation and a two-hour broadcast sit in one library and gate the same way.
Can my team publish without me handing over the keys?
Three roles: owner, admin, editor. Editors publish, admins run the site, owners control billing and the account. Drafts, a trash bin and scheduled publishing mean nothing goes out — or vanishes — by accident.
Do people get reminded before an event?
Everyone who RSVPs is reminded automatically, at the times you pick — a week, a day, an hour or fifteen minutes before. Reminders arrive as notifications on your site, and as push on their phones once your apps are live on the Network plan. To reach their inbox as well, email the attendee list from the event page.
Can I charge for an event?
Not per ticket. You choose who can RSVP — any signed-in member, or a subscription tier and above — and the event page stays public, so a members-only event doubles as an upgrade pitch to everyone who sees it. If the broadcast itself should be members-only, link one of your own live streams: it keeps its own access tier, where an outside link is visible to anyone who can see the page.
What happens if an event moves or is cancelled?
Change the time or the place and everyone who signed up gets an update notice (on by default), and their reminders move to the new date. Cancelling keeps the page up with a clear banner, stops the reminders, and offers to tell every attendee. Nobody finds out from a dead link.
